The Recovery College in the Black Country is opening its doors to prospective students with a series of new campus launches.

The Recovery College, which is commissioned by Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, has expanded to include new bases in Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton so that more people can benefit from its life-enhancing courses.

Courses at the college take place virtually, in classrooms and outdoors to build on student’s existing skills to give them knowledge and skills to help them build their confidence.

It provides a supportive educational environment for people who have an interest in, or personal challenges with mental health.

Co-production is also integral to the Recovery College, which means people with a lived experience of the college and mental health challenges, along with their supporters, work in partnership with professionals to co-design, co-deliver and co-evaluate all aspects of the college.

Stevie Chand, deputy principal at the Recovery College, said: “We here at The Recovery College are excited to announce the opening of our community campuses across the Black Country.

“Not only are we looking forward to delivering engaging and recovery focused courses and activities, but aim to be even more accessible to all communities within Dudley, Sandwell, Wolverhampton and Walsall by working in partnership with local organisations and residents.

“It has been wonderful to see the Recovery College grow enabling us to work across the Black Country. Our aim is to deliver a service that meets the needs of the local communities and empowers all who accesses us to build a life that goes beyond services where they can thrive.”

New bases are now launching at locations across the Black Country, in addition to its existing campus in Oldbury, to take the work of the Recovery College out into the community.

Open days are taking place this month for people to go along, meet the Recovery College team, take a look at student work exhibitions and find out more about how they can get involved.

People across the Black Country are invited to open days at the following dates and locations:

2nd Floor, YMCA Small Street Centre, 1A Small Street, Walsall, WS1 3ER. Monday 11 September, 2pm to 4pm.
