We have a number of exciting hospital development schemes as part of our ongoing estates strategy and investment into services.

Eradicating dormitory ward accomodation

We have secured almost £50m investment to refurbish some of our adult wards. This funding is part of a national scheme to eradicate dormitory style accommodation in mental health settings.

The first instalment of the money will be used to design and develop the schemes and to support the production of a full business case – and when this has been approved we will receive the rest of the money to complete the work.

Part of the development will be the building of a new purpose-built facility for older adults – this will be within the grounds of Dorothy Pattison Hospital in Walsall. It will also include an upgrade of two wards at Edward Street Hospital in West Bromwich.

Both developments have to be complete by spring 2024 and as part of the process we will be engaging with staff, patients and carers – so please do look out for opportunities to get involved in this.

Learning Disability Recovery Hub

A new modern, fit-for-purpose facility to support rehabilitation for learning disability patients is being built on the Heath Lane Hospital site in Sandwell. The new building will replace the existing Penrose House facility.
