PEOPLE across the Black Country are being invited to an online conference to learn more about disability history.

Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will host the virtual event on Tuesday 22nd November to mark Disability History Month.

The Trust’s ‘Your disAbility Staff Network’ has organised the free event, which will see a range of speakers share their experiences and raise awareness of the importance of inclusion and access in society.

Starting at 10am, the event will see Simon Hougton from We Support Deaf Awareness talk about the importance of deaf inclusion. Dave Stocks, vice-chair of the ‘Your disDisability Staff Network’, will share his experience as an author and the process of converting his work to audio books. They will be joined by commentator Kay Channon who will explore the importance of access and inclusion.

The conference will brought to a close by critically acclaimed comedian and mental health practitioner Gerard Harris, who will perform a stand-up routine based on his lived experience with neurodiversity.

Will Cooling, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Partner at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We welcome everyone to join us at the conference to learn more about disability history from a selection of brilliant speakers who each bring a different perspective and experience.

“The event is open to the public, staff and patients, so do come along and get involved this Disability History Month, and share this invitation with anyone you think would be interested in coming along.”

The event takes place from 10am to 1pm and is free to attend. To reserve your place, visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/disability-history-month-conference-tickets-468898296427
