We provide physiotherapy service for older adults and working age adults who have mental health problems during their inpatient stay in the hospitals.
The Mental Health Physiotherapy Team have the specialist skills to help service users who find it difficult to engage with other general physiotherapy services because of their mental health problems.
We work as an effective multidisciplinary team providing a comprehensive range of physical approaches to treatment aimed at relieving physical symptoms, maintaining and promoting the physical as well as mental well-being of patients.
The team have many ways to help someone improve their physical health, mobility and movement. We can target specific areas for improvement, such as:
- Falls Management and Prevention
- Respiratory problems
- Posture and mobility problems
- Neurological rehabilitation
- Musculoskeletal problems
We often give this support as 1-on-1 sessions. We can also provide treatment in groups. These includes standing and seated exercise groups, Adapted Tai Chi group, gym sessions and health promotion sessions. We can also assess people to have special equipment should they need it, such as walking aids. We can give advice to carers on how best to support someone’s mobility, and exercise needs upon discharge from hospital. We can also make community referral as needed to different services including orthotics, foot clinic, community falls prevention services, community physiotherapy team etc
The physiotherapy teams accepts internal referrals only as we only offer our service to inpatients. All internal multidisciplinary team can make referrals. We aim to see all urgent referrals within 48 hours and all routine referrals within 5 days.
