A mental health nurse at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust joined a special event at 10 Downing Street in recognition of the efforts of public service workers.

Jennifer Luff, who looks after patients at Hallam Street Hospital, attended the celebration in the garden of Downing Street after being invited by her local MP, Sureena Brackenridge.

The event was attended by the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who made a speech thanking public sector colleagues across the country for their hard work and dedication.

Jennifer said: “Sureena gave me a personal tour of Westminster which was really interesting and then we went to the garden of 10 Downing Street and had drinks and nibbles. Seeing different members of the public sector together in the garden was special.

“Having the Prime Minister saying thank you and acknowledging the hard work we do was very encouraging.”

She was joined by over 200 public sector professionals from across the country, including representatives from the NHS, education and emergency services, to celebrate those who embody the spirit of public service.

Jennifer, from Wednesfield, qualified as a mental health nurse in 2024 after completing her training at the University of Wolverhampton.

She has embarked on her nursing career at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, where she supports patients on the adult acute inpatient female ward at Hallam Street Hospital in West Bromwich.

Jennifer added: “I love working with the patients and seeing improvements with their mental health. I like the feeling that I do my best to make my patients feel safe.”

Carolyn Green, Chief Nursing Officer, said: “We are really proud to see our new talented nurses coming through and that Jennifer was chosen as one of our mental health nurses and recognised for her contribution. We are really pleased for Jennifer.

Praising Jennifer, she added: “Well done and we look forward to seeing you grow and have a life long career in mental health.”
